Basic Results Afforded With Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal directional drilling, otherwise
known as HDD, for a new water service line at this residential site located
in Suffolk County, NY, saved the homeowner disruption to their underground
sprinkler system and beautifully landscaped property which included a brick
walkway and retaining wall. Directional drilling was the perfect option
for the owner, the entire 175 ft. of frontage was left undisturbed during
the water line installation. This photo depicts the drill installing a
new one inch copper water service line at a depth of 54 inches with a distance
of 175 linear ft. from the home to the town's metering point . |
| At this restaurant, 250 linear ft. of 2 inch polyethylene water line with K copper at each end was installed. Here the photo shows where the grass was carefully cut and pulled back for the insertion of the drill head. The drill was then piloted under the ground, at the required depth, avoiding impact to the walkways, patios, parking areas and gardens that surround the building. From this one location on the property SWC was able to drill to the precise interior location where the new water line was then connected to the existing interior plumbing. | ![]() |

Here is a great example of the usefulness of horizontal directional drilling. This trenchless technology allowed SWC to drill from the metering point at the property line and continuing under the brick patio without interuption, to reach the rear of the building where the final connection was made inside. |
| Finally, after a hard days work, the project is competed.
Can you tell where the water utility line was installed?
Whether you're boring under bodies of water, busy highways or imposing structures HDD, trenchless technology, will help your project progress without disruption left behind by open dig trenching. Oh, the wonders of horizontal directional drilling! |
